| About the Medical Power of Attorney (Living Will)
By this document you can appoint someone to make important medical decisions for you when you cannot make those decisions yourself.
A Power of Attorney (Medical Treatment) allows the person that you appoint to make important medical decisions for you when you are unable to. You should therefore appoint a person you trust.
You may suffer dementia or temporarily be unable to decide your medical treatment for which your consent is required. If you are unable to give that consent yourself it avoids someone having to make application to a court for authority to make these decisions for you.
This power does not authorise the agent to sign documents on your behalf. You will need complete an Enduring Power of Attorney as well.
Although anyone in the world can sign this Medical Power of Attorney it is only enforceable in Victoria. |
